Orientations are an opportunity for potential members, producers, volunteers and supporters to learn how to get involved with VCAT, get training to use our television production equipment and facilities, and submit programs to
Community Channel 27. We will also discuss our services, resources,
policies, and programming guidelines.

Through a partnership with the City, the Vallejo City Unified School District and V-CAT, a Community Media Center is located at Jesse Bethel High School. All public access programming is processed through this media center. As a nonprofit organization separate from the City and the school district, V-CAT, which operates the media center, provides the community with a place to produce local shows of interest, address topics related directly to the City of Vallejo, and teach students and adults how to operate video equipment. V-CAT consists of board members who live and/or work in Vallejo. Along with developing policies and procedures for operating the public access channels, V-CAT and its executive director assure compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and state and local standards.

V-CAT oversees several committees as well, including:

  • Executive Committee — Oversees overall operation of the station
  • Finance Committee — Develops and monitors V-CAT’s budget, fund-raising and other fiscal activities holds membership events
  • Nominations Committee — Propose candidates for board membership, ensure diverse board
  • Community Committee — Recruits members, membership

VCAT is a nonprofit corporation selected by the City Council of the City of Vallejo to operate, develop and manage public access channels, facilities and equipment for all of Vallejo. Vallejo Community Access Television is a community media service organization. 
In partnership with the City of Vallejo, the Vallejo City Unified School District and Solano Community College, VCAT brings a new age of community-based media resources to benefit all who live and work in Vallejo. I
n 2004 VCAT was designated by the City of Vallejo to manage Channel 27 on Comcast Cable and operate the new TV studio, located at Jesse Bethel High School.VCAT is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.

The purpose of VCAT is to provide public access television to Vallejo’s residents to increase community awareness and pride, enhance our educational opportunities, showcase our talent, celebrate and appreciate our diversity, explore our future, understand our past, discuss current events and promote community involvement, participation and caring. V-CAT will be responsible for training city residents in video production and provide technical advice in the execution of productions. Only those who have been certified by V-CAT will have access to equipment and production facilities

V-CAT will oversee the operations of the Community Media Center, while most content will be provided by V-CAT certified members of the community. In other words, you will provide the programming! Broadcasting events or programming content could include:

  • Public forums and debates
  • School activities
  • Youth issues and events
  • Cultural events
  • Documentaries
  • Environmental issues
  • Sporting events
  • Educational films
  • Classes
  • Performances, e.g. musical events
