Jessica
is a senior at Jesse Bethel High School. She previously attended
Vallejo Middle School's G.A.T.E. program and Wardlaw Elementary
School from Kindergarten to sixth grade. She is the president
of the Renaissance Academic Achievement Club and the secretary
for the California Scholarship Federation. Jessica is also
involved in Best Buddies Club, La Raza Unida, and the Art Club.
Last summer, Jessica attended the Cal Maritime
Summer Bridge Program where she completed rigorous college level
courses such as English, Trigonometry, and Physics. She was recommended
by her counselor, Mr. Ricky Nutt, and stayed on campus for six
weeks. Jessica stated, "I decided to participate in the program
because it was a great opportunity for me to become familiar with
the college atmosphere. I was also able to further my education
in the process."
This spring, Jessica found out that she had
been accepted to 12 different colleges: 4 state, 6 UC's, and 2
private. While she had many options to choose from, Jessica decided
on and will be attending Cal Berkeley this fall. She intends to major in Business
Administration with a focus on Global or International Studies.
Jessica is also fluent in Spanish and regularly helps the non-English
speaking students at
Bethel by acting as a translator and interpreter for them. The
Bethel community is very excited and proud of Jessica for her
accomplishments.
After being accepted to Berkeley Jessica filled
out an application for the California Alumni Association Leadership Scholarship.
She was chosen as a semi-finalist for the Solano County Chapter
based upon her leadership qualities. There were 9 students that
were interviewed for the $7,500 scholarship, and it was rewarded
to Jessica. She is now an Alumni Scholar, which makes her an elite
among the already elite Cal student body. Congratulations Jessica!
