Chemistry Science Notebook Organization

Title Page: Your title page must include these items: Your Name, Chemistry and the Period you take this class, and Your Teacher's Name

The notebook is a three ring binder that is used only for Science class. The notebook must have a clearly labeled divider for each section. The sections must be in the order listed below. All papers must have a heading.

Section 1: Science Log
You will be writing in your science log on a regular basis. Each entry in the log needs to be labeled and placed in date order in this section of your notebook.

Section 2: Homework Assignments and Film Notes
Keep your homework and film notes in this section in date order. It will be to your advantage to find a friend you can call about notes and assignments when you are absent.

Section 3: Lecture Notes and Vocabulary
You will be taking notes in class on a regular basis. Keep all your notes by date and topic in this part of the notebook. Remember: You are responsible for making up any notes during an absence. It will be to your advantage to find a friend you can call about notes and assignments when you are absent. As a part of each unit there will be a list of vocabulary words to define. These words and definitions should be placed in this section of the notebook. Number each word, underline and give an understandable definition.

Section 4: Laboratory Work and Write-ups
All lab and class activities belong in this section in date order. The activities we do are directly related to what we are studying, so it is important that you make these up if you are absent. If you are absent for only a short period of time you can make up the assignments during lunch or after school within the week. For longer absences, alternate assignments may be provided or you may be referred to the "Academic Center" to complete the work.

Section 5: Extras
Any assignments that do not clearly fit any of the above sections should be placed here. During the course of the year, in addition to our normal class work, we may have occasional special projects which should be kept in this section.
Notebooks will be graded both by your peers and myself on a regular basis. Notebooks are a significant part of your grade and a way for you to demonstrate the quality of your work in this class. They are also used for display for open house and for parent conferences.
