12th Grade English competencies (10)

The student writes a reflective essay based on
his/her own personal experience that related this ecperience
to broader themes and generalizations about life which can apply
to all humanity.
The student makes a formal, multimedia class presentation
baded on his/her reflective essay or another topic chosen by
the teacher. The presentation must include written test and either
audio or video elements. The multi-media presentation could include
drama, choral reading, music, dance, art, etc. The informational
content of the presentation must come from more than one source
and be organized into one unified theme.
After reading a novel, play, poem or short story,
the student writes an essay that analyzees an author's implicit
and explicit philosophical assumptions and beliefs about a subject
that were present in the work.
Student edits another student's essay following
a proofreading checklist, offers suggestions to improve organization
and makes sure that the content of the essay is consistent with
its purpose.
The student, after reading a teacher assigned poem,
writes a brief essay identifying and explaining literary devices
and/or concepts contained in the selection.
Student analyzes political assumptions of two literary
works and writes and essay comparing them. (e.g. works about
poverty, racism, women's rights, etc.)
Student reads six books of his/her choice, including
at least one non-fiction book, and responds to these selections
in a format chosen by the teacher.
The student must satisfactorily complete at least
60% of all the assignments and/or competancy prep work.
