There will be one computer workstation for each student enrolled in any one of the courses above.

Any and/or all of the above courses will be offered on the basis of demand. Please, let your counselor know if any of these courses are among those you would be willing to take. If it not your first choice, your counselor needs to know if it would be your second, third choices or, even, fourth choice. In that way, you shouldn't get stuck with an unwanted class.

Please note: all similar Solano Community College Computer Information Science (CIS) courses have as a prerequisite the successful completion of Office Technology (OT) course #54 or a touch-typing skill at a minimum of 35 wpm; OT54 is similar to Keyboarding course above. At Jesse Bethel this may not be required but it is highly recommended for successful completion. Pleae consider enrolling in this basic keyboarding course if you would like to take a lot of computer classes in the future.

Success Stories?!

What might the above courses do for your life? Well, here are some imaginative success stories that could be true....

Ivy designed a Web Site for her own family tree because she wanted to learn more about the family history. A distant cousin, also interested in genealogy, found Ivy's web site and contacted her via email. Ivy now can trace her family back 400 years to France! What's more? Cousin Colette invited her to come visit last Spring. It happens that Colette lives in Cannes where is the famous Cannes Film Festival. While there, Ivy was discovered by a famous movie director. Might we see Ivy at the Oscars one day? Mais, oui! (That's French for "Oh, Yeah!!")

James is a computer game programmer. He tried to market a couple of great games he developed but never sold enough to make a profit. Competing products always seem to beat his product to the store shelves. After James learned Keyboarding, he was able to program new games three times as quickly as before. His most recent game program, so unlike anything else on the market, is a big hit. It was one of the lead sellers for last Christmas. Now, there are "copy cat" games on the shelves, but the buzz remains for his program.

William made a Power Point presentation explaining cell division for his biology class. Impressed, his Uncle Bernie paid him to do a listing presentation for his real estate business. Now, all the agents have William preparing their listing presentations. His college fund is secure with all that work. William can "just say no" to student loans now. He's learned so much about Real Estate by doing those presentations that he's decided to become a lawyer, specializing in Real Estate Law.

Sylvester and Gordon are best friends. Neither wanted to go on to college right away. They see themselves as...well, non-corporate types. When they graduated from high school, they figured they'd be better off working for themselves. After much thought, they decided to become business owners and open an Internet Café. It was a business that would keep them in touch with the things they liked most: computer games, the internet and hanging out with friends. Using the skills they learned in a Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel course, they produced a business plan and expense budget. A local bank was very impressed with their energy, enthusiasm and well-produced plan. It gave them the needed funds to set up shop. Their grand opening was a year ago. Their business is so good that lawyer friend wants to join in partnership to help set up a second café in another town. Could a franchise business be in the future?

After Byron learned to touch-type in a high school Keyboarding class. He became the most popular guy in every chat room he visited. After all, how many people can type without looking at their fingers and read all the on-going commentary at the same time? Dexterity, a sharp mind and verbal charm in led to a job offer. Now, he's PrimeTime host for an Internet radio program. He needs a secretary to help him handle all the fan email.

For a biology class project, DeShawn had to spend four Saturday mornings in the Suisun wetlands counting the number and types of birds nesting there in Spring. He counted more that 50 different species. His report was composed with Microsoft Word that included great pie and bar charts imported from Microsoft Excel to effectively present his data. His biology teacher gave him an A+ and wrote a very fine letter of recommendation for his college application to Stanford. He's been accepted.

When Diane created her killer resume with MS Office Word and then sent it off to San Francisco, she kept her fingers crossed for an interview. Well, she got that interview. With her upbeat personality and endless energy, Diane is flying around the world demonstrating software at major trade shows. Now, she's got her fingers crossed that she's picked for the next London exposition.

Any correlation to real persons in the "success stories" is purely coincidental.
