Program Description

Vallejo Transition Partnership Program (TPP) is a collaborative project between Vallejo City Unified School District and the Department of Rehabilitation (DR) designed to facilitate young adults as they transition from high school to the world of work. The program focus is to provide curriculum, assessment, counseling, career exploration, job placement, job coaching and other employment related support when appropriate.

TPP clients are enrolled into a transition class during their junior and senior years of high school. In this class, the students explore their own skills, abilities, and interests. With the help of a DR counselor, each TPP client will write an Individualized Plan for Employment (I.P.E.). This plan will project and employment goal and objectives for the client to begin working towards. Upon completion of high school, the TPP client will be referred to a TPP job developer who then provides guidance and support to the client as he/she enters into employment.

" Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed." Booker T. Wahington

Success Stories:

Darek worked with his TPP Department of Rehabilitation (DR) counselor to design his Individual Plan for Employment (IPE). A TPP Job Developer set up an interview at Neely's Transmission and Automotive. An on-the-job trainign agreement allowed him to work for Neely's for a month (wages paid by DR/TPP). At the end of his traing period, he had so impressed his manager that he was hired full-time.

LaTasha hopes to find a career working with animals. TPP provided her with work experience at the local Humane Society. Her experience there has both helped her determine that she indeed does want to follow this path as well as provided her with entry-level work experience.

John, working as Prosperity Attendant at Best Western Inn, perservered to learn the routine that is vital to Hotel Housekeeping Operations. Full time work has given John a sense of accomplishment by being part of a team.
