
The purpose of the SAP program is
to provide group counseling for students to improve interpersonal
skills and decision-making. Any
student wanting assistance with anger management, self-esteem, grief
or drug/alcohol related issues is eligible to receive services.

The
goals of the Student Assistance Program (SAP) are:
- To
offer counseling and support to students
- To
teach affective education that will increase emotional intelligence
- To
develop life skills that improve empathy, communication, problem-solving
skills and anger self-management.
- To
enhance self-efficacy and a positive self-concept
Who
can refer a student to the Student Assistance Program (SAP)?
Teachers,
administrators or other school staff may refer students to the Student
Assistance program. Students can, also, refer themselves to the
program. Parent permission is required for participation in the
program.

What
are participation responsibilities for students?
Students
are responsible for making up any work missed in class. Each group
meets for one class period once a week.
Are
there any limitations?
Students
will be allowed to participate in one one group. Aprocimately 10
students are in each group, on a first-come, first-served basis.
Who's
in charge of the SAP Program?
All
SAP counselors are supervised by Jill Glover, Ph.D., Coordinator
of the Student Assistant and Peer Programs.

Carolyn comes to the SAP team with
an experienced background in counseling and has been a Behavior
Intervention Specialist for the Vallejo School District. She holds
a BA degreee in Psycholody and is currently pursuing her MA in Counseling
and Marriage and Family Therapy.
Carolyn has worked in a variety of
settings with children and families. Carolyn is the founder of Blackhark
Ministries, a religious non-profit organization, where she facilitates
women's counseling groups.
Carolyn Finley is the JBHS Student
Assistant Counselor. A Student Assistant Counselor works under the
Student Assistant Program (SAP).
