"I am the newest addition to
the Promoting Awareness, Presenting Alternatives
(PAPA) Program, a teen pregnancy prevention
program at Vallejo High School.
As a health educator, I will be
offering lessons regarding pre-adolescent and
adolescent sexual health issues reanging from
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI's) to
communication skills. These lessons can be
taught at grade levels 5 through 12. Also,
I would be more than willing to incorporate
any pertinent health information you deem relevant
into the lessons."

This
year, the PAPA Program in conjunction with
Planned Parenthood of Shasta-Diablo (PPSD)
will be offering a variety of interactive presentations
regarding sexual health issues that are vital
to the well-being of our teen population. Parent
permission is required for youths to attend.
Teachers may select presentations from the
following topics:
The Sexual Being:
an exploration of varying dynamics that make
us the sexual beings we are. Includes social,
cultural and familial influences.
Sexual & Reproductive
Anatomy: An overview of the female
& male reproductive anatomy.
Contraception:
this lesson discusses the multiple methods
of birth control, including hormonal, barrier
and natural methods.
Teen Pregnancy:
this lesson identifies risky behaviors that
can end in pregnancy. It also includes assertiveness
skilsl for sexual decision-making. It is best
if used in conjunction with the contraception
lesss.
Sexually Transmitted Infections:
A look at bacterial, viral and "miscellaneous"
STI's and how they are transmitted. Best if
done in two lessons.
Date Rape & Assertiveness
Skills: Participants will be able
to recognize how the belief in false assumptions
and the failure to communicate early can lead
to date rape via the use of role-play.
Child Sexual Abuse:
This lesson defines secual abuse, describes
how to recognize a sexually abusive situation
and examines one's options when deciding whether
to tell.
Homosexuality I:
This lesson explores myths and facts regarding
homosexuality.
Homosexuality II:
A more detailed look into the lives of lgbt
peopleand the issues they face from society.
Dating Skills:
This activity offers the opportunity for students
to discuss all kinds of feelings regarding
dating.
Relationships:
Multiple activities are used in this lesson
to explore and define characteristics of healthy
relationships.
Sex Under The Influence:
the goal of this lesson is to help youth understand
how alcohol can lower the likelihood of practicing
safer sex.
