. Freshman Admission Requirements to U.C. & C.S.U.

F.A.Q.s

  1. What must I do to meet requirements to be a successful applicant for either the California State University system (CSU) or the University of California system (U.C.)? All C.S.U. or U.C. applicants for the freshman year must complete 15 units of required course work, known as "A thru G Requirements". (see more detailed info below)
  2. What is a UNIT? One year or two semesters.
  3. What are the "A-G" Subject" Requirements? High school level courses of study that are required for admission to either the California State University or University of California systems. (see more detailed info below)
  4. Are the requirements the same for both California university systems? Mostly but not entirely. Only by meeting the slightly more rigid U.C. requirements, can you apply to both UC and CSU campuses. (see more detailed info below)
  5. What about Agricultural courses that have traditionally been accepted but don't fall under the "A thru G" catagories? For the C.S.U. system, they will be considered on a course-by-course basis.
  6. Where can I go for more detailed undergraduate admission information?
    • For the University of California system (e.g. Berkeley, Davis, Irving, Los Angeles) visit their admissions/pathways website.
    • For the California State University system (e.g. Sacramento, San Jose, Sonoma) visit their CSU Mentor website.
    • Or set up a free account with California Colleges (portal for all California Colleges & Universities) to explore the California college system campuses and to receive financial aid information and admission planning tools for future freshmen and transferees the California colleges.
