Digital High School & Technology Committee
Information

Digital High School Program

Though the Digital High School Grant Program was suspended this year by Gov. Davis in an effort to bring budget expenditures down, our school is grateful for the technology equipment that was purchase last school year. We hope to see the grant program resume.

Our school technology committee still has much to do this coming year. We look forward to participation on the committe from parents, students as well as teachers and administrators.

The next DHS Committee meeting is the last Tuesday of January, the 28th, in the IMC at 3 p.m.

Parents, Students and Staff are welcome to join the committee. Please notify your webmaster if you would like to be on a special mailing list for agendas. JBHS staff and faculty are automatically on the mailing list.

DIGITAL HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
Vol. 2 No. 4 Nov. 1 Steve Sillen

I really hoped I could save a tree and not send out another Digital News report on paper, but several of you aren’t checking your school emails on a daily basis. You get a lot of important info there. Such as, the status of the new school world system, which has been sporadically going down the past week, virus fixes, and school and district news updates. Please check your school email under Microsoft Office. EVERYONE is online now and has email capabilities.

I went to a Digital High county meeting the other day and came away with some good websites for you to bookmark:

  • The first is, http://members.tripod.com/MR_LEGO_JOE/free_online_tutorials.htm, this site has a ton of free tutorials on lots of subjects such as excel, word, power point, school improvement, etc., check it out.
  • The second is a free site to check plagiarism it is, www.plagiserve.com , it is slow but it’s free. A third site is a neat little one that when students are doing research on the web and can’t find out who the author is they can check it out here and it will tell you where the article came from, it is www.internic.net .
  • If you are tired of students doing web research and coming up with a million responses to their search or worse coming up with disguised porn sites here’s a site for you. Go to www.Lii.org it is a site where all the links have been researched and approved by librarians.

Next, someone has my only copy of Photoshop. I need it back so I can download it on other teacher’s computers. Please return it to me in H101 ASAP.

If you have your own website, let your Jesse Bethel High School Webmaster know about it; she can link to it. Also, check out the Faculty Lounge section under the Faculty banner, your fellow staff members are offering lots of neat trainings there. It gets updated frequently.

Don’t forget, please don’t call with computer problems fill out a repair request sheet. We are averaging a 24-hour or less turn around on repair requests. Beside Winston and myself there are four excellent T.A.s who can repair your computer.

That’s it for now. Have a good Veteran’s Day holiday - Monday, Nov. 11th.
