To all Leadership candidates and their parents:
Your son or daughter has been recommended or has shown interest in being a member of this year's leadership class.
The class is selected based on academic achievement, teacher recommendations, and student interest in being a part of the planning and implementing of student programs at Jesse Bethel High School. All leadership students are expected to maintain a 3.0 or better GPA while taking on the responsibilities in the class.
Leadership students take on a variety of tasks at school. These students:
- Run the student store (to be determined later)
- Organize dances
- Plan and implement staff (Teachers, Secretaries, and all auxiliary employees) recognition and appreciation
- Set up and plan assemblies, serve on school committees (leadership and school site)
- Develop and run school activities at lunch
- Post and organize school challenges
- Work on special events (Black History Month, International Month, Red Ribbon Week, Spirit Week, Earth Day, and a Holiday canned food and clothing drive)
- Run, organize, and participate in student government
- Run the spirit coupon program
- Volunteer at parent and student orientations and participate in ninth grade orientation
- Solicit donations
- Serve the community
- Work on individual assigned projects
- Plus many more tasks to name
While taking on some of these responsibilities, many of the leadership students have outside interests that also take up much of their time. Parents and students should consider all these responsibilities prior to enrolling.
Since students under an advisor run Leadership, students of the class learn to deal with real problems and work to solve them. Cooperative learning skills are enhanced and students and staff recognize these students as positive role models at our school. Being a part of Leadership is becoming more involved with the school as well as the community of Vallejo.
Joining Leadership is fun but requires dedication and perseverance. Families of leadership students must be supportive and get their son or daughter to class and other miscellaneous activities on time to make the Leadership class a productive learning experience. Your daughter or son will earn academic credit for attending and participating fully during the year.
As a parent signing this form you are agreeing to be supportive of your son or daughter's efforts in Leadership.
