John Arreguin PhotoJohn Arreguin comes to Bethel from Twin Palms High School in (Palo Verde Unified School District) Blythe, where he served as principal. Before that, he served in various administrative positions, including a stint as principal of Natomas High School in Sacramento. He also was an assistant principal at Fairfield High School.

Arreguin, who speaks fluent Spanish, said he is looking forward to working to improve student performance through after-school programs and more advanced placement classes.

"I want to help students at both ends," Arreguin said.

Arreguin has been a teacher and has worked at the district level as a director of secondary curriculum and instruction.

Before starting a career in education, he was a sergeant major in the U.S. Army providing guidance and training to recruiting commanders.

He holds a master's degree in counseling from California Lutheran University and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Columbia College in Columbia, Mo.

Arreguin is of both African-American and Mexican-American descent, and is a native Spanish speaker. He said Spanish may come in handy in speaking to Spanish-speaking households. (Reprinted from Vallejo Times Herald article titled "Arreguin set to take over on Aug. 1"
